Monthly Sampai for May 2012 Sunday May 13 starting at 10:30

Greetings friends,

This coming Sunday May 13, the Shumei International Institute will hold its Monthly Sampai for May 2012.  Late last year we changed the schedule slightly to offer people interested the opportunity to view a short ‘Shumei News’ video that is shown at the monthly Sampai at our headquarters Misono in Japan.  We will begin this short (typically about 10 minutes) video this month at 10:30 AM.  For people who would like to see this video news, you will want to be seated in the sanctuary by this time.

We begin the sampai introduction at 10:45 and the formal beginning of the sampai ceremony is at precisely 11:00 AM.  At that time Sensei Alan Imai will lead us in chanting the Amatsunorito and Zengensanji after which he will share the healing light of Jyorei with all those present.  Following Jyorei Sensei Alan Imai will share a presentation about Shumei’s activities and the teachings of our founder Meishusama.   After the Sampai a healthy buffet luncheon with Natural Agriculture and local organic ingredients will be served. The luncheon is by donation.  We hope many of you can join us this Sunday.

The following weekend May 19 – 20, will be Shumei’s 10th anniversary celebration and the Crestone Community Interfaith day.  We will send a separate post with an updated link for more information.

Brilliant Crestone blessings,

Matthew

This Friday is Free Movie Night

April 20, Friday

Shumei’s Monthly Free Movie Night hosts “Mr. Holland’s Opus” refreshments provided, 7pm, 256-5284

In 1965, passionate musician Glenn Holland (Richard Dreyfuss) takes a day job as a high school music teacher, convinced it’s just a small obstacle on the road to his true calling: writing a historic opus. As the decades roll by with the composition unwritten but generations of students inspired through his teaching, Holland must redefine his life’s purpose. Dreyfuss earned an Oscar nomination for his outstanding work in this emotional drama.

Free Movie Night this Friday at Shumei

March’s Free Movie Night is March 23rd at 7pm.

And March brings us “The Buena Vista Social Club.” In this fascinating Oscar-nominated documentary, American guitarist Ry Cooder brings together a group of legendary Cuban folk musicians (some in their 90s) to record a Grammy-winning CD in their native city of Havana. The result is a spectacular compilation of concert footage from the group’s gigs in Amsterdam and New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall, with director Wim Wenders capturing not only the music — but also the musicians’ life stories. Refreshments provided,  256-5284 for more information.

This Friday Round Mountain will be at Shumei in Crestone!

This Friday March 16th at 7pm Round Mountain will be sharing their blending of dusty American grit with a worldly amalgam of global influences at Shumei International Institute. The Santa Fe-based duo presents a singular take on folk music that is both foreign and familiar. The multi-multi-instrumentalist band of brothers has travelled the globe absorbing bits and pieces of musical cultures, returning to filter them through their own sepia-toned Americana framework. A concert not to miss! $10 suggested donation at the door.      Call 256-5284 or visit www.shumeicrestone.org.
