Art Symposium This Sunday November 17th from 3 to 5pm

Local artist Sergey Noskov ‘s works will be on display at the Shumei Gallery in Crestone for the months of November and December. A symposium with Sergey will be held on Sunday November 17th starting at 3pm. A reception will follow.

Sergey Noskov was born in 1961 in St. Petersburg, Russia. His grandmother was raised in Mongolia and owned a significant collection of thanka paintings (traditional paintings of Buddhist deities and symbols originating from Tibet). From early childhood Sergey was inspired by these works and desired to learn this art. In 1987 he met famous Buriat thanka painter Nima Tseren and renowned Mongolian sculptor and painter, Danzan Lama. He moved to Buriatia, Siberia, in order to study with his teacher. During this time he painted many thankas on commissions for many lamas and lay people in the area.

SII’s Monthly Sampai for November this Sunday 11/10 starting at 10:30 AM

Greetings friends,

This coming Sunday­­­­­­ , the Shumei International Institute will hold its monthly sampai for November 2013.  Most months we now show a short ‘Shumei News’ video that is also shown at the monthly Sampai at our headquarters Misono in Japan each month.  We begin this video (typically about 10 minutes long) each month starting at 10:30 AM.  For people who would like to see this video news, you will want to be seated in the sanctuary by this time.

We begin the sampai introduction at 10:40 with the formal sampai ceremony beginning at precisely 11:00 AM.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for the sampai.  At that time Sensei Alan Imai will lead us in chanting the Amatsunorito and Zengensanji after which he will share the healing light of Jyorei with all those present.  This month Sensei Steven Tokunaga from Shumei’s Hollywood center will be joining us and will deliver this month’s presentation.  After the sampai a healthy buffet luncheon with Natural Agriculture, local and organic ingredients will be served. The luncheon is by donation.  We hope many of you can join us this Sunday.

Local artist Grant Freeman’s works will be on display at the Shumei Gallery in Crestone for the month of August. A symposium with Grant will be held on Sunday August 11th starting at 3pm. A reception will follow.

Grant began painting professionally eleven years ago when he was offered a show if he could produce twelve art worthy paintings in two months.

Grant continues to produce new works and selling them worldwide. This show will be highlighting his recent expressions of landscapes.
